Drinking for Your Health

Step 1. Questions

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. You have probably heard this at one time or another, but how does it work? How does a shiny red apple get broken down into the things your body needs to stay healthy? This is the job of the digestive system. To keep your digestive system working properly you must make healthful food choices and drink plenty of water. Just like a motor needs oil to keep it running smoothly, your digestive system needs water to keep it working well.

Use the activity as a chance to find out about the amazing work of the digestive system! Learn how to keep yours in top shape. Here are some questions to start you on your way.
  • What is your digestive system?

  • What are the different parts of your digestive system?

  • How does the digestive system work? What is the path that food takes once it is eaten?

  • How can you take care of your digestive system
First, visit the Web sites listed in Step 2 to research the answers to these questions. Take notes in the note-taking boxes. You may also visit other approved Web sites, or research the digestive system in encyclopedias or other resources found in the library.

Then, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.
