Amber Alert System
Step 1. Questions
Amber Hagerman was a bright and happy nine-year old girl living in Texas. In January 1996 she was kidnapped while riding her bicycle. For four long days her parents, family, and friends suffered over where she might be. Then the bad news came that she had been killed. Realizing that the first few hours are critical for finding an abducted child the Amber Alert System was put into place in hopes of helping other children. There are things that all children can do to prevent being abducted and stay safe.
What you learn in this e-journal project may help save a life someday. Here are some questions to explore:
- What is the Amber Alert System? How does it work?
- What do you need to know to stay safe when playing outdoors or away from your home?
- What safety tips can you offer to help children avoid dangerous situations?
First, visit the Web sites listed in Step 2 to research the answers to these questions. Take notes in the note-taking boxes. You may also visit other approved Web sites, or research the Amber Alert System in encyclopedias or other resources at the library.
Then, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.
