Providing Clean Air
Step 1. Questions
Air pollution can make you sick and it can damage the environment. As the population grows, more people produce more pollutants. You have probably seen pictures of smog hanging over large cities. In 1970, the federal government passed the Clean Air Act to limit the amount of pollutants in the air anywhere in the United States.
For this e-journal project, you will research and write about the Clean Air Act. Here are some questions to guide your investigation:
- What is the Clean Air Act? Find out how it was passed into law and what its purpose is.
- How successful has it been at improving air quality?
- What is the Air Quality Index? Research the air quality in your local area.
- What other questions do you have about the Clean Air Act?
First, visit the Web sites listed in Step 2 to research the answers to these questions. Take notes in the note-taking boxes. You may also research other approved Web sites, or research the Clean Air Act in encyclopedias and other resources at the library.
Then, follow Steps and 4 to write your report.
Step 2. Research
Research answers for the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!
