Locate Your Community Hospital

Step 1. Questions

Suppose you are skateboarding. Of course you have on your helmet, elbow and kneepads, and wrist guards! But when you try a 50-50 grind you take a tumble and something just doesn’t feel right. If you suspect an injury, where should you go? What services are available at your local hospital?

Use this e-journal project as an opportunity to get to know your community hospital. Here are some questions to guide your research:
  • Where is your community hospital? Try to locate it on a map of your town.
  • What services are available at the hospital? Sometimes patients with very serious injuries or illnesses must be taken to larger medical centers with trauma teams. Find out the services available at your local hospital.
  • What can someone expect when they go to the hospital? Research emergency room procedures and medical admitting offices.
  • What other questions do you have about hospitals?
First, visit the Web sites listed in Step 2 to research the answers to these questions. Take notes in the note-taking boxes. You may also visit other approved Web sites, or research other journals and resources at the library.

Then, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.

Step 2. Research

Research answers for the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!
