Explore Government Agencies

Step 1. Questions

There has always been a need to control drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and firearms. There are laws to keep them out of the wrong hands. There are government agencies that work to enforce these laws. Three of these agencies are the Food and Drug Administration, Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Use this e-Journal as an opportunity to learn about one of these agencies. The following questions will guide you along the way.
  • What is the history of the agency?

  • What kind of regulations does the agency enforce?

  • How do they enforce these laws?

  • What other questions do you have about the agency?
First, visit the Web sites listed in Step 2. Then, research the answers to these questions. Take notes in the note-taking boxes. You may also visit other approved Web sites, or research the different agencies in encyclopedias and other resources at the library.

Then, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.

Step 2. Research

Research answers for the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!

Get It Straight!
From the Drug Enforcement Agency, this site talks about drugs. The “Prevention Posse” discusses everything you need to know about drugs. A description of each drug, its street name, what it’s made from, and how it is used are all mentioned.
