Protecting Water and Land
Step 1. Questions
Polluted lands are sometimes called brown fields because they are not usable. Pollution by chemical spills or other unhealthful toxins cause brown fields. What can a community do when land has become polluted?
In this e-Journal project you will research the possibilities for recovering the polluted areas. Use the following questions to guide your research.
- What are brown fields? How do lands become unusable due to pollution?
- What kinds of pollutants can make land unusable? What are the dangers of using lands that are polluted?
- What can be done to recover polluted areas of land? Research some example of successful land recovery.
First, visit the Web sites listed in Step 2. Then, research the answers to these questions. Take notes in the note-taking boxes. You may also visit other approved Web sites, or research land pollution in encyclopedias and other resources at the library.
Then, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.
Step 2. Research
Research answers for the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!
