Budget Benefits

Step 1. Questions

There are many things that kids might like to have – dance lessons, CD’s, clothes, and the list goes on! Someday in the future you may want a car of your own, or to help pay for your college education. You can’t always go to your parents or guardians for money. It is a great feeling to be able to approach your parents or guardian and say, “I have the money. May I buy this?” Kids who learn to save and budget their money have this privilege. It is easy to spend your money on small stuff – but learn to think big and save!

In this activity you will research and write about how to save and budget money. Use these questions to guide your investigation.
  • What is a budget?

  • What are some ways to manage your budget? Research some tips and tools for saving money.

  • How can you start a savings account at the bank?

  • What other questions do you have about saving and spending money?
First, visit the Web sites listed in Step 2. Then, research the answer to these questions. Take notes in the note-taking boxes. You may also visit other Web sites, or research budgeting money in other resources at the library.

Then, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.

Step 2. Research
