Web Link Description
For Kids, Teens,
and Educators is a Web page featuring simple
steps for students to take to stop the spread of germs.
In addition to practical information, the site contains
a delightful ditty and coloring page that reinforces
the importance of hand washing to eliminate germs and
stop the spread of illness. The site is part of a site
sponsored by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Student Objectives
-
to learn a jingle and color a page
to brainstorm ways to prevent the spread of communicable
diseases
-
to learn the importance of hand
washing to prevent communicable diseases
-
to recognize that diseases can be
spread through germs
Before Online Activity
Ask students what they think
happens if someone with a cold sneezes without properly
covering his or her mouth. Students should mention that
this is one way germs are spread. Have students discuss
other ways that germs might be spread, and then have
them brainstorm ways to prevent germs from spreading.
Tell students one of the most effective ways to prevent
germs from spreading is to wash their hands properly.
If you are using Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Health &
Wellness, refer students to the information about
germs. Invite students to the Web page For Kids,
Teens, and Educators to read more about germs
and to learn a short jingle about germs.
Have colored markers or crayons available
so students can color the page.
