Objectives Students will use time lines to locate and gather information.
 
1. PREPARE
Focus on the Lesson Have students discuss the order of events in the previous school day. As students talk, draw a time line on the chalkboard that represents the school day. Help students relate the points on the time line to dates, and explain that a time line of events can give a clearer picture of the order in which events occurred in the past.

2. TEACH/PRACTICE
Have students read the time line about Ourtown. Explain that the time line lets them know how the community of Ourtown grew through the years between 1996 to 2000. Have students answer questions 1-5. Review the answers with them.

3. ASSESS/CLOSE
Have students explain how to read a time line and make a time line showing school events.
