Objectives Students will use time lines to locate and gather information.

1. PREPARE
Focus on the Lesson Have students discuss the order of events in the previous week at school. As students talk, draw a time line on the chalkboard that illustrates the school week. Help students relate the points on the time line to dates, and explain that a time line of events can give a clearer picture of the order in which events occurred in the past.

2. TEACH/PRACTICE
Have students read the time line about developments in transportation. Explain that the time line lets them know what events have happened and when they happened. Have students answer questions 1-5. Review the answers with them.
