  1. Evan walks 17 miles each week. About how many weeks does it take him to reach the minimum number of miles needed to earn the award? Estimate the quotient.

Now solve. Was your estimate reasonable?

Math at Home

Today I explored a Web site about the Presidential Sports Award, a physical fitness awards program for children and adults. I                   by 2-digit numbers to solve problems about earning awards. For instance, you must ride a ten-gear bicycle for a minimum of 600 miles to earn a Presidential Sports Award. I figured out that if Bill rides his ten-gear bicycle 12 miles every day, it would take him                     days to earn the award.

You can find out more about this topic by asking your teacher or parents to show you other Web sites.
