  1. Sarah decides to double the Boston Brown Bread recipe. How much salt will she use? How much salt would she use if she tripled the recipe?

                                                        

                                                        

  2. Tim is about to bake the Boston Brown Bread and he realizes he only has a 1/8-cup measuring cup. How many of these 1/8 cups does he need to use for the correct amount of raisins? How many 1/8 cups does he need to use for the molasses?

                                                        

                                                        

  3. This recipe says to bake the bread in 3 one-quart molds. Imagine you only have 2 of the one-quart molds. What fraction can you multiply the amounts of the ingredients by in order to bake the bread using only your 2 molds?

                                                        

  4. You decide to multiply the amounts of the ingredients in the recipe by the fraction required for 2 molds. How many cups of whole wheat flour will you use? How much molasses?

  5. You want to cut this recipe in half. Calculate the new amounts needed for each of the following ingredients by multiplying the old amounts by 1/2.

                        teaspoon baking soda

                        teaspoon salt

                        cup fermented bananas

                        cup either shortening or butter or margarine

                        tablespoon milk

                        eggs

                        cup chopped nuts

Today I learned about baking bread at a Web site! Then I used some bread recipes to solve problems related to multiplying and dividing fractions. I figured out that if I wanted to cut the Fermented Banana Bread recipe in half, I would need to use               cup of flour and               cup of sugar.
