Gymnastics by the Numbers
2000 National Gymnastics Festival
http://www.usa-gymnastics.org/results/2000/wnat-festival.html
Travel to this festival to see how gymnastics events are scored.
- Read the scores.
- Use the scores to solve the problems below.

- Look at the team standings. What is the difference in scores between Rank 1 and Rank 4 teams?
- Place the Senior National scores for each event in order from greatest to least. Then write the name of the winner of each event.
- In the Senior National results, what is the difference in total score between the first and second place finishers?
- In the Child National results, how many more points would the seventh place finisher have to score to tie for second place?
- A team score is determined by adding the top five scores in each event. In the Junior National results, find the top five scores for each event. Find the total for each event.
- Look at your results for the Junior Nationals above. If the total of these scores were the team's score, find the total team score.

Math at Home
Today I explored a Web site about women's gymanastics. The highest possible score for four events is 40. I found out that the highest overall score by a woman in the Senior Nationals was less than a perfect score.
