  2. Click on Explore the World on the left navigation bar and then click Central and Eastern Asia. Read the page and click on Nepal.
  3. Read about Nepal, a country in which Peace Corps volunteers are working to provide relief. List three critical issues faced by the people of Nepal.
  4. List three ways that the Peace Corps is working to help Nepal.

Lesson Objectives

  • Students will use the Internet to learn about the Peace Corps.

  • Students will find out about Nepal, a country in which Peace Corps volunteers are working to provide relief.

  • Students will list three critical issues faced by the people of Nepal and three ways in which the Peace Corps is working to provide relief.

Suggested Additional Activities

  • Have students click on Explore the World. Break them up into groups and have them click on different continents and then on the name of one of the featured countries. Have each group compile information about its assigned country and give a presentation to the class.

  • Have students brainstorm to come up with a service project.

About the Site

Twenty young people created Earthforce in 1991 with help from the Pew Charitable Trusts. Members of Earthforce chapters strive to solve community environmental problems. You may want to go to the Earthforce main page for help directing student exploration.

What to Do

  1. Click enter the earthforce site and then Resources for Earthforce curriculum resources and links to several environmental education sites.

  2. Discuss with students environmental issues or problems in their community. List them on the chalkboard.

  3. After students explore several Earthforce projects, have them select a problem from their list and develop an action plan to help solve it.

  4. You may want to have students use the Earthforce Site Map at the main page to look for local organization chapters.
