Salton Sea (p. 379)

Step 1. Questions

Considering all the wildlife living in the Salton Sea, it might seem as if the sea has been around forever. In fact, the Salton Sea has only existed in its current form for about 100 years.

Write a report about the Salton Sea and the problems it faces today. To do so, you will research the sea, the animals that live there, and environmental concerns about the sea. Here are some questions to guide your research:
  • What is the Salton Sea?
  • Why is the Salton Sea important to wildlife?
  • What are some environmental problems facing the Salton Sea?
  • What are environmental groups doing to solve the problems of the Salton Sea?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above, and write down what you learn in the note-taking boxes.

You may use search engines to research other Web sites. Or research the Salton Sea at the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.

Step 2. Research

Research answers for the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!
