Weather Around the World (p. 287)

Step 1. Questions

Earth's weather differs from one place to another. In the month of October 2005, parts of the United States suffered a drought. On the other side of the Pacific Ocean, Vietnam was experiencing floods.

Write a report comparing and contrasting California and Vietnam. To do so, you will research the climate in both places, such as the temperature and rainfall. You can also refer to pages 286-287 in your textbook. Here are some questions to guide you:
  • What are the temperatures in Palmdale, CA and Hanoi, Vietnam during January and July?
  • How much rain does each place receive during the year?
  • In general, what is the weather in Vietnam like?
  • How is the weather in Vietnam and the United States different, and how is it similar?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above, and write down what you learn in the note-taking boxes.

You may use search engines to find other Web sites. Or research Palmdale and Vietnam at the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.

Step 2. Research

Look for answers to the questions in Step 1. Visit these Web sites for information, and take notes in the boxes.
