Electrical Devices (p. 316)

Step 1. Questions

You probably use electrical devices, like toasters, every day. Do you ever wonder exactly how they work?

Choose an electrical device to write about. You will explain how this electrical device is used. You can begin by researching some common household devices. Here are some questions to guide your research:
  • What are some common household electrical devices?
  • Which device would you have trouble living without? Why?
  • What steps do you take to use the device?
  • How does the device work?
  • What safety rules should you follow when using the device?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above, and write down what you learn in the note-taking boxes.

You may use search engines to research other Web sites. Or research electrical devices in the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your essay.

Step 2. Research

Research answers for the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!
