Magnet Story (p. 358)

Step 1. Questions

You have probably used a magnet to stick paper to your refrigerator. Did you know that magnets have many other uses as well?

Write a story about a special way to use magnets. Begin by researching magnets and what they can do. Here are some questions to guide you:
  • What is a magnet, and how does it work?
  • What are some common uses of magnets?
  • What are some unusual uses of magnets?
  • What kinds of problems could magnets solve?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above. Write about what you learn in the note-taking boxes.

You may use search engines to find other Web sites. Or research magnets at the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your story.

Step 2. Research

Look for answers to the questions in Step 1. Visit these Web sites for information, and take notes in the boxes.
