Wind Powers the World (p. 301)


Step 1. Questions

You have read about the wind turbines north of Los Angeles. Did you know that wind power is becoming more popular all across the United States? It has long been popular in other parts of the world.

Write a letter to a friend describing what wind power is and how it works. To do so, you need to find out more about this form of alternative energy. Here are some questions to guide your research:
  • How is the energy from wind power used?
  • Where else in the world is wind power popular?
  • What are some advantages and disadvantages of wind power?
  • What do you think is the future of wind power?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above. Write about what you learn in the boxes.

You may use search engines to research other Web sites. You can also research wind power at the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your letter.
