The Story Goes On (p. 23)

Step 1. Questions

Even a bug's life can be dramatic. An insect must not only search for food, but avoid becoming a meal itself!

Write a story about a plant, a bug, and the bug's enemy. You can use the poem on page 23 of your textbook for ideas. Start by doing research about plant growth, insects, and food chains. Here are some questions to guide you:
  • What happens as a plant grows?
  • What are some characteristics of a bug? What kinds of bugs are there?
  • What is a food chain?
  • What roles do plants and insects play in a food chain?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above, and write down what you learned in the note-taking boxes.

You may use search engines to research other Web sites. You can also research plant growth, insects, and food chains at the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.

Step 2. Research

Research answers for the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!
