What's Out There? (p. 177)

Step 1. Questions

You have read a poem that compares the Sun and the Moon. But what else is out there in the night sky?

Do you ever wonder about the objects you see in the sky? Here is your chance to write a poem about the planet, star, or constellation that interests you. Here are some questions to guide your research:
  • What are the names of some planets, stars, and constellations in our solar system?
  • Do any of them have special meaning to you?
  • What is it about that planet, star, or constellation that you like or find most interesting?
  • How do you feel when you see a picture or read a description of it?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above. Write down what you learn in the boxes.

You may use search engines to find other Web sites. You can also research planets, stars, and constellations at the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your poem.

Step 2. Research

Look for answers to the questions in Step 1. Visit these Web sites for information, and takes notes in the boxes.
