A Food Web for Lunch (p. 100)

Step 1. Questions

A food chain is a model. It shows how living things get the food they need. Sometimes one living thing is food for many animals. Then the living thing is part of many food chains. When food chains are put together, they form a food web.

Write a story to explain Emma's food web. Then describe a food web of your own lunch. First, look up information about food chains and food webs. Here are some questions to think about:
  • What food chains make up Emma's food web?
  • Which living things are part of each food chain?
  • How are the foods that you eat for lunch related?
Are you ready? Look for answers to the questions. Visit the Web sites in Step 2. Write about what you learn in the boxes.

With teacher supervision, you may search other Web sites. You can learn about food webs from books at a library, also. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4.

Step 2. Research

Find answers for the questions in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes on this page.
