My Water (p. 168)

Step 1. Questions

Living things need fresh water. They can get this water from lakes, streams, and ponds. Do you live near one of these bodies of water?

Write a report about lakes, streams, or ponds where you live. First, look at a map of your state. Look for nearby bodies of water. Here are some questions to think about:
  • What lakes, streams, or ponds are in my state?
  • What animals live in or near the water?
  • What can be done to protect the animals and the water in this habitat?
Are you ready? Visit the Web sites in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above. Write down what you learn in the boxes.

With teacher supervision, you may search other Web sites. You also can learn about lakes, streams, and ponds from books at the library. When you are ready, go on to Steps 3 and 4.

Step 2. Research
