Meet Ana Luz Porzecanski (pp. 130–131)

Step 1. Questions

Tinamous are birds that live in the grasslands of South America. Ana Luz Porzecanski studies these birds. She uses their songs to help find them in their habitat.

Write a report that tells how a tinamou compares with another animal. Choose an animal that you know about, and see how it is the same as and different from a tinamou. You might choose another bird or a different type of animal. Here are some questions to think about:
  • How does a tinamou look and act?
  • In what type of habitat does a tinamou live?
  • What does the animal you chose look like? How does it act?
  • Where does the animal you chose live?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above. Write down what you learn in the boxes.

With teacher supervision, you may use search engines to find other Web sites. You also can learn about animals at the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.

Step 2. Research

Research answers for the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!
