What a Difference Day Length Makes (p. 275)

Step 1. Questions

Think about a warm summer day. The sun is out and the trees have bright green leaves. How are summer days different from fall, winter, and spring days?

Write a descriptive essay about changes in nature that you have seen. Before you write, you will need to research the seasons and the changes they bring. Here are some questions to guide your research:
  • What happens to the land and the climate when the season changes?
  • How does a plant change throughout the seasons?
  • Why do the leaves of many plants change color and drop to the ground in the fall?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above. Write down what you learn in the boxes.

With teacher supervision, you may use search engines to research other Web sites. You also can research the seasons and their effects at the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your descriptive essay.
