Metals from ores are matter. Did you know that matter cannot be created or destroyed? We can change matter, but we cannot make it form or disappear. Think about where we get metals and where they go when we have finished using them.
Write an essay that explains why it is important to recycle metals. Research metals and use the information on pages 414–415 of your textbook to help form your ideas. Here are some questions to guide your research:
Where do metals come from?
What are some metals that we use every day?
What does it mean to recycle?
Why is it important to recycle metals?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above. Write down what you learn in the note-taking boxes.
With teacher supervision, you may use search engines to research other Web sites. You also can research metals and the importance of recycling at the library. When you are ready, go on to Steps 3 and 4.
