Dandelions and Me (p. 70)

Step 1. Questions

Flowers make seeds. Wind, water, and animals help seeds get from the flowers to the ground, where the seeds can grow into new plants. The seeds of a dandelion plant get carried by the wind. Have you seen these seeds or other plant seeds moving from place to place?

Write a personal narrative about watching seeds being carried from place to place. Begin by researching seeds and flowers. Here are some questions to guide your research:
  • Why do plants have seeds?
  • What are some different ways that seeds move from flower to soil?
  • What seeds can I see?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above, and write down what you learn in the boxes.

With teacher supervision, you may use search engines to research other Web sites. You also can research seeds at the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your essay.

Step 2. Research

Research answers to the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!
