The Moth That Needed the Tree (p. 158)

Step 1. Questions

The yucca moth and the yucca tree depend on each other. The moth helps the plant make seeds, and the plant is a home for the moth's offspring. The plant and the insect work together to survive.

Write a report about another plant and insect relationship. To do so, you will need to research insects and plants that depend on each other. Here are some questions to guide your research:
  • What plants depend on insects to live?
  • How do insects help plants?
  • In what ways do insects depend on plants to meet their needs?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above, and write down what you learn in the note-taking boxes.

With teacher supervision, you may use search engines to research other Web sites. You also can research insects and plants at the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your essay.

Step 2. Research

Research answers for the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!
