Step 1. Questions

Water is important for all living things. People are finding ways to conserve, or save, water. They are also learning how to keep Earth's water clean.

Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper. Explain why people should work to keep groundwater clean. Begin by researching groundwater, how it becomes dirty, and what can be done to keep it clean. Here are some questions to guide your research:
  • What is groundwater?
  • How and when do we use groundwater?
  • What human activities can harm groundwater?
  • What can be done to keep groundwater clean?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above, and write down what you learn in the boxes.
