Living things deep in the ocean can survive without sunlight. The producers in this ecosystem live on chemicals. They release energy by a process called chemosynthesis. However, most living things on Earth ultimately depend on energy from sunlight to live. These living things include you!
Write a report about how sunlight helps support your life. Begin by researching how sunlight provides you with heat, food, and oxygen. Here are some questions that will guide your research:
How does energy from the Sun help keep Earth warm enough for you to live?
How does the energy in the food you eat travel from the Sun to you?
Where does the oxygen you need to live come from?
Can you think of any other ways sunlight is important to you?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above, and write down what you learned in the note-taking boxes.
With teacher supervision, you may use search engines to research other Web sites. You also can research the importance of sunlight to living things in the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.
Step 2. Research
Research answers to the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!
