Art museums are places people can visit to enjoy paintings and other artifacts. Unfortunately, it is not just people that enjoy art. Some organisms enjoy eating it!
Write a report about how scientists like Maria Pia help protect art from harmful organisms. To do this, you will research fungi, their classification, and art conservation. Feel free to refer to the article on pages 128–129 of your textbook. Here are some questions to guide your research:
What are fungi?
How do scientists study and classify fungi?
What organisms attack works of art?
What methods can be used to help protect works of art from harmful organisms?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites listed in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above, and write down what you learned in the note-taking boxes.
With teacher supervision, you may use search engines to research other Web sites. You also can research fungi and art conservation in the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your report.
