You have read about a trip a group of scientists took to a rain forest in the Foja Mountains of New Guinea. They discovered many new species and saw some rare animals that were thought to be extinct. What made this trip unique?
Research different ecosystems and learn what each one is like. Then write a personal narrative about visiting the ecosystem of your choice. Here are some questions to guide your research:
What are the nonliving parts of this ecosystem?
How do plants and animals interact in the ecosystem?
What factors affect life in this ecosystem?
Why is this ecosystem important?
What treasure might you bring home from a trip to this ecosystem?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web sites in Step 2. Look for answers to the questions above, and write down what you learn in the note-taking boxes.
With teacher supervision, you may use search engines to research other Web sites. You also can research ecosystems at the library. When you are ready, follow Steps 3 and 4 to write your personal narrative.
Step 2. Research
Research answers to the questions you were asked in Step 1. Visit these Web sites. Take notes about them on this page, too!
