Return to Book List Grade 2   Watch It Move   Levers     A simple machine is anything that can change the direction and size of forces.   A lever is a simple machine that may be used to change the force needed to lift things.   A lever has a bar and a point where the lever turns. The fulcrum is the point where a lever turns.   A seesaw is a lever. It can show you how the position of a fulcrum changes the force needed to lift a thing.   A hammer, a bottle opener, and a crowbar are examples of a lever.   You can use levers to do many kinds of work.   Levers may look different, but each one has a fulcrum and needs a force to make it work.
