All About Magnets

  •
  • Magnets pull, or attract, some kinds of things.
  •
  • Poles are the places where a magnet's pull is strongest. Poles are at the ends of a bar magnet or a horseshoe magnet.
  •
  • A magnet has a North pole, or N pole. A magnet has a South pole, or S pole.
  •
  • The N pole of a magnet attracts the S pole of another magnet. Similarly, the S pole of a magnet attracts the N pole of another magnet.
  •
  • Poles that are the same repel, or push away, each other.
  •
  • The N pole of a magnet repels the N pole of another magnet. Similarly, the S pole of a magnet repels another S pole.
  •
  • Magnets have many uses.
