When harmful substances get into air, water, or land, pollution occurs. Natural pollution happens when a volcano erupts and pollutes the air. Polluted water happens naturally when too much soil or sand settles in a lake. Then the lake isn’t a good place for fish and plants to live. People can cause pollution by using fertilizers to keep plants healthy. Fertilizers can soak into the ground and into water supplies.
