Several space probes have visited Venus. They discovered that the surface of this planet is covered with lava flows, craters, thousands of volcanoes, plains, and mountains. Venus has an atmospheric pressure 92 times greater than Earth. The 480°C temperature on Venus is because of a runaway greenhouse effect. The surface and atmosphere reemit sunlight in the infrared range. This light becomes trapped by the atmosphere. One day on Venus is longer than its year. The planet rotates in a direction opposite of Earth’s rotation. Venus rotates once every 243 Earth days. It takes 225 Earth days for Venus to revolve around the Sun.
