Volcanoes occur in long lines called belts. One that circles the Pacific Ocean is the Pacific Ring of Fire. Another can be found running along the Mediterranean Seathrough Iran. The majority of volcanoes happen along plateboundaries. Some volcanoes form along the gaps at the edges of spreading plates. These volcanoes are called riftvolcanoes. Rift volcanoes are located deep underwater. The Hawaiian Islands are a chain of volcanoes in the middle of a plate. The plate is moving over a part of the mantle called a hot spot.
