1. Check out these landforms! Go to Geography: Landforms and Bodies of Water.

  • Click mountain range. In what states can you find a mountain range?
  • Scroll down and look at the children's landform models.
  • Click the Back arrow. Then check these other landforms in the same way: plains, plateau, river, valley, canyon, island.
  • Find states that have each landform.

Online Activity: Name That Landform!
Look at a United States map and use the Web site. Match each landform with its state.
Click two cards. Wait to see them turn over. Try again until you find all of the matches!




2. Now look for landforms in your state! Go to State Topography Maps.

  • See your state's topography. Select your state from the list and click Submit Query.
  • Look at the map. What landforms do you see?
  • Do you see mountains? Do you see plains? Do you see rivers?
  • See the numbers and colors at the right to determine how high the land is.
  • Click the map again to see a close up picture.
Offline Activity: 3-D Landform Scene
Make a three-dimensional model of a landform in your state. Look again at the models on the first site for examples.
