European explorers Cabot, Cartier, and Hudson all came from different backgrounds. They shared one goal, however: the search for the Northwest Passage to Asia. Though the passage was never found, each explorer made unique contributions to the settlement of North America. Drag the facts to the correct box. When you finish, click Check. 2. Discovering five states is no small feat. No wonder this European explorer has a bridge named after him and a monument honoring him. Find out more at Giovanni da Verrazano.

Explorers searching for a Northwest Passage made many contributions to the settlement of North America. You’ve read about Giovanni da Verrazano and how his discovery was honored after many years. Now select another explorer mentioned in the Infographic on page 176 of your textbook. Write a proclamation (a formal announcement ) that describes the importance of this person. Discuss his influence on North America’s northeastern coast. You may wish to look at a map of northeastern North America for evidence of places that were named after this person. Illustrate the proclamation with a medal designed to honor the explorer and his accomplishments.
