1. Look up, look down, and look all around! Check out some Washington, D.C., tourist attractions. Go to Virtual Tour of the National Mall. http://dcpages.com/Tourism/
- Scroll down and click Washington Monument.
- Listen to your teacher tell about the monument. Watch as the picture moves.
- Click the picture to stop the movement. Then use your cursor to move it yourself.
- Click the Back arrow to see other Washington, D.C., attractions.
- Look at Lincoln Memorial and The Wall in the same way.
Online Activity: National Mall Journal
Tell about the places you visited on the Web site. Fill in the blanks to complete this journal entry. Type your answers into the boxes provided.
2. See photographs from a fun field trip. Join these students on A Tour of Washington, D.C. http://tqjunior.thinkquest.org/6388/
- Click the flag next to Tour the U.S. Government Buildings.
- Click a picture and read the caption. Then click the Back arrow.
- Explore each government building in the same way. Then, click the hat next to Home Page.
- Follow the same steps to see more pictures at Tour the Monuments and Memorials and Tour Some Other Cool Sites.
Offline Activity: Say It with Captions
Select three landmarks from those shown on the Web site. Write a short caption describing each of these places. Use information from the descriptions on the Web site. Research additional facts about the landmarks using classroom or media center materials. Include these facts in your captions.
