Click two cards. Wait to see them turn over. Try again until you find all of the matches!

2. New York State is also known for its technology industry. One of the early giants in the field is IBM (International Business Machines), which began in New York. View pictures of this company during its early days in Endicott, New York. Go to IBM Archives: Endicott.

  • Click General Reference, near the top of the page, to see IBM’s first logo.
  • Next, click computer history and then early tabulating machines to see one of the first punch card machines used to help count our country’s population.
Offline Activity: Create a Logo!
A logo is a picture or symbol that a company uses to identify its products. At the Web site you saw an early IBM logo. Can you think of familiar logos that you see every day on television and in your community? With your group, think of a business or product that your community is famous for. Then design a logo to advertise your community's product. Draw and color your logo to show to other groups.
