1. What New York attractions have you visited? Here's a place in New York City that you and your family can enjoy. Read more about the exciting adventures awaiting you at the Bronx Zoo. http://wcs.org/home/zoos/bronxzoo
- Read about the zoo. At the bottom left, click Take an online tour, which will open in a new window showing a large gorilla.
- Wait a few seconds or click anywhere to see Congo Gorilla Forest.
- Click Congo Virtual Tour. Click the map picture on the left; then click Entry to start.
- Read each page, clicking Next to go on.
- At the end of the tour, click and explore How to Build a Rain Forest.
- Finally, click Meet The Congo Residents at the top. Click each animal to learn more.
Online Activity: Write a Letter!
Pretend you just returned home after a real live tour of the Congo Gorilla Forest at the Bronx Zoo. Write to an imaginary (or real) relative or friend in another state to describe your visit. Fill in the sentences below to write your letter. Type your letter in the spaces below.
2. Have you ever taken a tour underground? The Howe Caverns is a prehistoric, underground world created millions of years ago. Discover another New York vacation attraction. Take a virtual tour of the Howe Caverns. http://www.howecaverns.com/
- Click Take a Tour in the left column.
- Read about the cavern tour. Then click The Vestibule on the map to start.
- Click each place on the map until you reach the Lake of Venus.
- Read about each formation and how it was formed. Click highlighted words for more detailed explanations.
Offline Activity: Design a Travel Poster!
Now that you have completed your virtual tours of the Bronx Zoo and the Howe Caverns, think about places to visit in your region of the state. Create a travel poster advertising a local attraction. Think about what you would tell families to make them want to go there. Don't forget to add descriptions about special features or events. You can include pictures that you have drawn, too!
