1. The United States trades with many other countries around the world. Trade is the buying and selling of goods and services. Japan is one of our biggest trade partners. We export goods such as corn, wheat, and airplanes to Japan, because Japan wants these goods. We import goods such as cars and computers from Japan, because we want these goods. Online Activity: You’re the Expert!
Pretend that you are an expert on Japanese trade. Answer the questions that the television reporter asks you. Use the information at the Web site. Type your answer in each box.
2. The United States trades goods with many countries, including Canada, Argentina, and Nigeria. Each of these countries exports goods to the United States and to other countries as well. What goods do these countries export? What countries do they trade with? Find out at The World Factbook 2000. http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/factbook/index.html
- Click Country Listing. Click the first letter of a country you want to explore. Then click the country.
- Click Economy. Scroll down to "Exports—commodities" and "Exports—partners." What goods does the country export? Where does it export these goods?
- Click the Back arrow three times. Explore other countries in the same way.
Offline Activity: Excellent Export Poster
Research one country with your group. Find what that country exports and what countries it exports to. On your world map poster, label and color the country you researched. Draw arrows to the countries that are its export partners, and label these countries. Then draw pictures of the products that are exported. Remember to title your poster.
