- Color Landform Atlas of the United States

- Virtual Outdoors
http://www.adirondack.net/Tour/Hike

What landforms are in your area of the state? Do you live near a river or stream? Can you see sand dunes in the distance? Has your family ever camped in nearby mountains? Get an unusual view of your area and all of New York state at the Color Landform Atlas Web site. Then, even if you don't live there or haven't visited there, take a virtual tour of New York's Adirondack region at another Web site.
From Color Landform Atlas of the United States:
- At the bottom of the page, click Elevation Key and scroll down to study the colors. Think about what landforms might be at each elevation.
- Click the back arrow to return to the Color Landform Atlas of the United States page, and then click NY New York.
- Click County map and locate the area of the state where you live.
- Click the back arrow to return to the New York page, and then click Shaded relief map.
- Find your area of the state and identify the landforms.
- To see close-up pictures of one area of New York, the Adirondacks, type the address http://www.adirondack.net/Tour/Hike.
From Virtual Outdoors:
- Scroll down, choose one of the areas in the Adirondacks region, and click the title to begin your virtual tour.
- Follow the directions to continue the tour.

To complete your project
Use your textbook, the information at the Web sites, and your answers above to create a travel brochure for your county. Emphasize the land and its uses. Look at the virtual tour to get some ideas of what you might want to include. Then divide a sheet of paper into four sections. The first section is the title page. Draw a map in the middle section. Include the location and names of towns, cities, landmarks, and special area attractions, as well as the landforms. On the last page, make a map key and then write about the things to see and do in your county. Display your finished brochure in a classroom travel agency.
