A Journey with Lewis and Clark (p. 72)

Step 1. Questions

Lewis and Clark spent two years exploring the land west of the Mississippi River. Their journey led them all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Can you imagine walking–or riding a horse or mule–every day for two years!

Pretend you are a newspaper reporter. You′ve been asked to join Lewis and Clark on their journey. Write a report that describes the events of the expedition. Here are some questions to think about:
  • What interesting things did you see on your journey?
  • What problems did you have along the way?
  • Describe some of the people, places, plants, and animals you saw on your journey.
Are you ready? Look for answers to the questions. Visit the National Geographic Web site “Go West with Lewis and Clark“ in Step 2 to explore “the great unknown.“

Step 2. Research

Travel “onward“ with Lewis and Clark. The interactive expedition lets you make the decisions. Choose wisely! After your adventure, write a description of the events for your report. Be sure to explain the sequence of events as they happened on your trip.
