Just “One” Bite! (p. 125)

Step 1. Questions

We′ve learned that every culture celebrates with food. The big difference is the “kind“ of food! You′d be surprised what kids around the world eat! What foods do you and your family eat to celebrate special events?

Write a summary that explains your culture and the kinds of foods you and your family eat. Here are some questions to think about:
  • What foods are special to your culture?
  • How do other cultures celebrate with food?
  • Do you eat something special on your birthday? New Year′s? Thanksgiving?
  • What food would your friends be surprised to see on your table?
Are you ready? Look for answers to the questions. Visit the PBS Web site “Gonna Eat That?“ in Step 2 to explore unusual foods from other cultures.

Step 2. Research

Once you′ve “digested“ this info, write a description of the foods that other cultures eat. Take time to explain about food and your culture. How is it different? How is it the same? Be sure to support your main idea with details.
