We know that farmers around the United States grow everything from corn in the Midwest to strawberries in California. Farmers in some states grow crops like cotton, which are used to make clothes, sheets, and other items. What do the farmers in your state grow? Here are some questions to think about:
What are the main crops in your state?
How are these crops used? Food? Clothing?
How does farming in your state effect what you eat?
Does farming have a big impact on your state′s economy?
Are you ready? Look for answers to the questions. Visit the USDA Farm Service Agency Web site in Step 2. Click on your state and print out the coloring page(s).
Step 2. Research
Once you′ve colored your state′s “crops,“ write a description of these items. Think about how these crops impact your life and diet. Remember to use words and phrases that signal cause and effect relationships. These include: ′because, so that, for, since, and this is how.“
