Take a look at the illustration on page 135 of your textbook. What was life like for the colonists? No electricity. No indoor plumbing. Does this store look anything like the stores we shop in today? Would you have survived during colonial times? Let's take a closer look and find out what life was really like in the colonies.

What were the houses like?
What did children do for fun?
What did the colonists eat? Drink?
Are you ready? Begin by visiting the Web site listed in Step 2. Be sure to take the quiz to learn if you could have survived in colonial times! Look for answers to the questions above and record your notes in the boxes.
Step 2. Research
Once you've read about colonial times, type your notes in the boxes. Make some generalizations about this period in history. To make a generalization, write a broad statement about what evidence from a story tells you.
