When you write a description, you share your impressions about a person, place, thing, or experience with other people. A description of something should include details like looks, sounds, tastes, feels, and smells. A description of someone might include details like their height, age, hair and eye color, what they do, and their favorite activities or hobbies.

Before you write a description, ask yourself these questions:

Look at the ideas you have written in the graphic organizer. What do you want your reader to know about what you're describing? Think of a topic sentence that says the main idea about your description. Make sentences by connecting the ideas that go together. Number your sentences in the order they will be in your paragraph. The topic sentence should be first. On a separate sheet of paper, write your sentences in order. Come up with a title that fits your topic sentence.

Now show your description to a friend. Ask them if they can picture the thing you have described.
Rewrite your description so it is clear to others what you are describing.

When you are happy with your description, you can copy it on to a new piece of paper. Be sure to use your best handwriting. You might also draw a picture of the object you described.
