Here's an example of a topic you could choose for the Big Idea Activity: If you live in Los Angeles, your timeline might begin a long time ago. About 40,000 years ago, the fossil pits at Rancho La Brea began to form. Find out more about a Native American group that lived in an area of Los Angeles. In 1781, the Spaniards built the first European settlement in Los Angeles. This settlement is preserved today as El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. In the late 1800ís, Chinese immigrants began to settle in Los Angeles. What do you think of when you think of Los Angeles today?

Fun Facts The Sun Wing Wo store was one of the first Chinese general merchandise stores. A customer could buy work clothes or have someone write a letter home.
